Androgenetic alopecia
The most common cause of hair loss in men and women: why it is not just stress-related shedding and why acting early matters.
Lo que muchos confunden con una caída normal por estrés suele ser alopecia androgénica: no es irreversible, pero el tiempo juega un papel clave.
Androgenetic alopecia is the most frequent form of hair loss in both men and women. In predisposed people, a hormone derived from testosterone —dihydrotestosterone, or DHT— acts on the follicle and gradually miniaturises it: with each cycle the hair grows back thinner and shorter, until the area loses density or the hairline recedes.
It is often mistaken for temporary shedding caused by stress, and that delay matters. It is not irreversible, but a follicle that has fully shrunk does not recover: the sooner a dermatologist identifies the pattern, the better evidence-based treatments work to halt it and regain density. No shampoo or cosmetic stops the process.
