Autism
Autism spectrum disorder is neither a disease nor a world apart: it is a different way of perceiving and processing reality.
No es una enfermedad ni un mundo aparte, sino una forma distinta de percibir y procesar la realidad.
Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition: the brain processes social and sensory information in a different way. It is not a disease that can be caught or cured, nor a world apart: it is a different way of communicating, feeling and processing one’s surroundings. Many autistic people perceive noises, lights or textures that others ignore far more intensely.
That is why it is a spectrum: no two autistic people are alike. Understanding it does not start with changing the person but with looking at the world from their perspective. An early diagnosis by neurodevelopmental specialists opens the door to the support each person needs.
